Football is officially back, Kansas City!
As the Chiefs get ready for another NFL season, there’s plenty to be excited about. New matchups, new storylines, big plays, and of course, a new group of rookies looking to make their mark in Kansas City.
The Chiefs added seven players during the 2026 NFL Draft, including a first-round cornerback, a pair of defensive linemen, a running back, and more.
Here are five Chiefs draft picks we’re watching this season.
1. Mansoor Delane — Cornerback
The Chiefs used the No. 6 overall pick on LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane, making him one of the biggest new faces on the roster.
Delane enters Kansas City with plenty of attention on him, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has already praised his potential during training camp.
We’re ready to see those rookie defensive plays turn into game-day moments.
2. Peter Woods — Defensive Tackle
The Chiefs grabbed Peter Woods with the 29th pick in the first round.
Adding another young defensive lineman gives Kansas City another player to watch as the defense takes shape heading into the regular season.
Translation: opposing quarterbacks, good luck.
3. Mason Thomas — EDGE
Kansas City selected Mason Thomas with pick No. 40 in the second round.
With his ability to get after the quarterback, Thomas is one of those rookies who could quickly become a fan favorite when he starts making plays behind the line of scrimmage.

4. Jadon Canady — Cornerback
The Chiefs selected Jadon Canady with pick No. 109 in the fourth round.
Kansas City continues to add young talent to its secondary, and Canady gives the Chiefs another rookie to watch as the defense develops throughout the season.

5. Emmett Johnson — Running Back
With their first pick in the fifth round, the Chiefs selected running back Emmett Johnson at No. 161.
A new running back brings another storyline to watch as the season gets underway. And if Johnson finds himself breaking through for a big gain at Arrowhead, you can bet Chiefs Kingdom is going to hear about it.
Big Plays Are Coming
The 2026 Chiefs regular season officially begins September 14 against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium, followed by a Sunday night matchup with the Indianapolis Colts on September 20.
And with Patrick Mahomes working toward a Week 1 return, the excitement around Kansas City is building quickly. Reuters reported that Mahomes is on track for the opener, pending final medical clearance.
